School Resource Officers

SRO4
The Colonial Heights Police Department School Resource Officer Program was established to strengthen and enhance the safe planning efforts of Colonial Heights High School and Colonial Heights Middle School. Through grant assistance, we have a dedicated School Resource Officer at each school in our city.  Several of the SRO's are trained in DARE and provide presentations on a regular basis.

The primary mission of the School Resource Officer is to provide a visible and positive image for law enforcement to students. School Resource Officers are able to provide confidential counseling to students helping them make positive choices in their lives. School Resource Officers ensure a healthy school environment where teachers feel safe to teach and students feel safe to learn.

The Colonial Heights Police Department is thankful to have five police officers who serve as full-time school resource officers. These officers provide a visible and positive image to their students, as well as a safe environment that is conducive to learning.

SRO’s also provide security at after school and sporting events, evaluate security threats and investigate and make  criminal arrests.

During the summer months and school vacations, SRO’s assist the Operations Division by providing additional patrol coverage.
