"Winter Garden" by Kristin Hannah
Leningrad 1941. Veronika Marchenko loses her husband and two children to the war. She survives and marries GI Stan Whitson. They have two daughters, but she has never shown love to the girls. In 2000, Stan dies and the daughters are forced to take care of their mother. At this point the story revolves around Veronika telling her story of losing everything during the war and the heart break that overtook her life. This is a story of love and reconciliation fraught with emotion.
