Deputy Fire Marshal J. E. Boisseau

Colonial Heights Fire & EMS

October 9, 2019

The City of Colonial Heights and the Colonial Heights Fire & EMS has been awarded a Firefighter Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant in the amount of $799,022.40.  The funding is for three years and helps offset the cost of salary and benefits for the hiring of six additional firefighters.  The purpose of SAFER is to provide funding to meet the minimum national recognized standard of three firefighters on front line fire apparatus.  With this competitive grant, the City of Colonial Heights will be hiring six (6) additional firefighters.  The City hopes that this grant will improve response times by meeting national safe staffing levels prior to interior structural fire attack.    Overall this grant will improve services to the citizens that may summon the Department in the event of an emergency.
