  • No, Colonial Heights City Code prohibits owning, feeding, keeping and selling live poultry or fowl.

  • You must be a resident of the City of Colonial Heights, there is a $20 impound fee per animal and animals are only accepted if space allows.

  • In order to adopt an animal, a meet and greet is required, this may include introducing the adoptable animal to existing pets to ensure compatibility.  An adoption application is required.

  • a. Citizens are asked to contact the non-emergency number when the nuisance barking is occurring in order to generate a history of issues and to allow an officer to attempt to locate and hear the barking.

    b. If a citizen observes a dog running at large, they are asked to contact the non-emergency number.  An officer will be dispatched to attempt to locate and safely secure the animal.

  • Donations can be made directly to the shelter or to the Colonial Heights Veterinary Hopital, located at 3666 Boulevard, for our medical fund which helps cover costs for sick or injured animals.

  • Volunteers are welcome at the shelter.  Potential volunteers are asked to call the shelter and come in to complete a volunteer waiver.  Volunteers may be asked to walk, socialize or interact with animals or may assist with cleaning.
