Important Due Dates
Important Dates in the Tax Year
Taxpayers of the City of Colonial Heights should be aware of the following important dates:
- January 31 - File all PERSONAL PROPERTY tax returns prior to this date to avoid a 10% late filing penalty. Returns should be filed with the Commissioner of Revenue.
- February 1 - Purchase DOG & CAT TAGS prior to this date. Obtain tags from the Billing & Collections Office.
- March 31 - Deadline for filing ELDERLY EXEMPTION forms on Real Estate.
- May 15 - Home owners must pay the first of two semi-annual REAL ESTATE tax installments if taxes are not paid by an escrow through your mortgage company. A 10% late payment penalty and interest at 10% annually is assessed on all past due Real Estate taxes.
- June 5 - The first of two semi-annual PERSONAL PROPERTY tax installments is due. Pay the first installment on or before this date to avoid a 10% late payment penalty and interest at the rate of 10%. Personal Property Taxes must be paid on time to avoid withholding of DMV State Decal Registrations.
- November 15 - Home owners must pay the second of two semi-annual REAL ESTATE tax installments if taxes are not paid by an escrow through your mortgage company. A 10% late payment penalty and interest at 10% annually is assessed on all past due Real Estate taxes.
- December 5 - The second of two semi-annual PERSONAL PROPERTY tax installments is due. Pay the first installment on or before this date to avoid a 10% late payment penalty and interest at the rate of 10%. Personal Property Taxes must be paid on time to avoid withholding of DMV State Decal Registrations.
